This early Jim Pitts portfolio features six drawings based upon the fictional works & characters, of H.P. Lovecraft: The Outsider, The Terrible Old Man, Night Gaunts, The Call of Cthulhu, Innsmouth, and the Music of Erich Zann. Pitts's heavily influenced by Hannes Bok, and Virgil Finlay, but his stipple is broader than the fine Finlay technique, giving the drawings a more sinister feel, but there's a bit of Hannes Bok "cheekiness" in the poses, suggesting that we're really not to take these horrors too seriously. The Portfolio is Signed by the artist. There is a booklet included with Lovecraft's likeness—a moody, deeply shadowed visage—on the cover, and a Dirk Mosig article on HPL, along with Jim Pitts's biography. Slick paper, heavier stock, in a stiff illustrated manilla folder.
