A True Detective scenario, intended as an alternate ending to the 1st season of the TV show
“Some people, no matter where they look, they see themselves” - Maggie Sawyer
The body of Stephanie Kordish was marked with a spiral sign and crowned with antlers in a ritual killing, reminiscent of one that occurred 17 years prior. That case was solved and the murderers long dead, but when the victim’s diary resurfaces, telling tale of a Yellow King, Delta Green is not so sure.
Neither is Rustin Cohle, former detective on that case. Cohle believes there is a deep and ongoing conspiracy behind these murders, an obsession that once cost him everything. His successors believe that he is the killer, and that he used his position to conceal his involvement all those years ago.
One way or the other, Agents will circle back to where it all began and learn the true face of the enemy within.
Curtains part on darkened bayou
Agents run, assume their places
Hatred and devotion dwells
See the Sign, hear the spaces
Of Carcosa
Blood soaked Word and blackened stars
Clockwork dancers, songs of sorrow
Lies beneath the pallid masks
Lonely phantom of tomorrow
In Carcosa
“A while back I ran a campaign that was intended as an alternate ending for the 1st season. It ignores the last two episodes and picks up at the end of episode 6, when the police interviews end and it's revealed that Rustin Cohle is the prime suspect . I decided to write it up.” “(…) with Delta Green interceding to investigate the Yellow King references in Dora Lange's diary.”
“When the evidence from the Dora Lange killing is digitized, an automated monitoring system flags the words KING IN YELLOW and CARCOSA. Delta Green intervenes under the cover of an FBI probe into a suspected drug cartel connection. Their objective is to determine if these words mean anything and, if so, contain it.”
“It's a pretty massive scenario, but hopefully other people find it useful.”
